essay with photos: John Cage’s Kitchen (Jack Stub). From 2012 but I just came across it. Cage, the composer, musical theorist and pioneer, was macrobiotic.

essay: It’s not friends, but it’ll do — Who waters your plants? (Kelton Wright/Shangrilogs). A meditation on community vs friends — some people are lucky and can have both as well as a geographic place, a “where,” that they really like, but most of us have to make choices when choosing where to live (if we even have a choice; many don’t, if they want an income or are constrained by family obligations). Friends can take a long time and a lot of effort to make; but community, as she says, comes about pretty easily simply by being in the same locale and making a small effort to introduce yourself or say Hello! over and over.

short article with photos: Bug Eating Bog Dwellers (Mt Cuba Center – Hockessin, DE). Showcases three carnivorous bog plants/genuses, all of which we find in New England as well: purple pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea), bladderwort (Utricularia species), and  sundews (Drosera species) .

essay: Even Waves Rest or, how about a pep talk? (Caroline Cala Donofrio/Between a Rock and a Card Place) Spongy moths (Lymantria dispar) also rest. Bonus: tarot card pull: Temperance, asking “How do we dwell in the middle place?”
