LINK FEST: 27 SEPTEMBER 2022

Links that may or may not be related to gardens, food, travel, nature, or heterotopias and liminal spaces but probably are. Sources in parentheses.

images: cats stealing food in still life paintings (Twitter/Cats of Yore). An amusing and quite accurate thread.

short essay: Choosing ease (Wild Letters/Nic Antoinette). “This plan is stupid, we say. This plan is not fun, we realize. And so we slow down.”

massive rabbit hole: Gourmet 1981-2009 (Internet Archive). Yes, you can flip through every Gourmet magazine — some of these are 300 pages — over 28 years. Or you can search the text of all of them! (The word “kalamata” returned 171 results; the word “jasmine,”, 131; “grits,” 124; “orecchiette,” 40.) You can also log in and borrow them.

short article: Brown Thrashers Skulk Through Thickets (Northern Woodlands/Lee Emmons). “Even when they’re out of sight, brown thrashers may be heard singing loudly in late spring and early summer [in New England], often incorporating bits of other birds’ songs into their own.”

essay & photos: How I Spent My Summer Vacation (The Audacity/Roxane Gay). Lovely travelogue and photos of Greece/Mediterranean.
