A meme I’m trying out: A list of thirteen things, any topic, any style.

Thirteen Things I’ve Seen on Jekyll Island This Week:

1- Alligators!

2- Dozens of black- and yellow-crowned night herons!

and a green heron or two:

3- Skimmers! plus gulls

4- Sea Pansy!

5- An assortment of butterflies! (monarch, gulf fritillary, skippers, common buckeye, among others)

6- Forster’s terns and royal terns!

7- Snowy egrets chasing a willet who played them!

and one doing an interpretive dance:

8- White ibises!

9- Eastern rat snake!

10- Lot of sunsets!

11- Spiny orb weaver and golden silk orb weaver spiders!

12- Tri-coloured herons!

13- Woodstorks and roseate spoonbills!

I love all these things — the birds, insects, and other animals; the plants; the beach treasures; and the exploration and discovery of them — but the marsh and the ocean are the sights I most want to see every day.
