LINK FEST: 17 MARCH 2026

poems: A selection of W.S. Merwin’s poems (The Merwin Conservancy) sometimes you just need to read a poem by Merwin … I happened on Completion today and it was good.

article: Love Island: Rare berry bonanza spurs Kākāpō baby boom A massive bloom of rimu berries fueled a mating surge among the world’s heaviest (and strangest) parrots (Elizabeth Anne Brown/SciAm) look at them!

book list: Books that feel like the best parts of life (Lucy Fuggle/Life with Books) I’ve read and loved some of the books on the list and now I want to re-read all the Barbara Pym books and read The Lost Soul by Olga Tokarczuk & Joanna Concejo, The Walking Man by Jiro Taniguchi, and Four Seasons in Japan by Nick Bradley (the latter of which reminds me that I want to re-read Pico Iyer’s Autumn Light: Season of Fire and Farewells).

article: Gobbling and Strutting: Wild Turkey Mating Season (Emily Haynes/The Outside Story/Northern Woodlands) “‘Gobbling’s kind of a long-range advertising of [the males’] presence and then strutting’s kind of the short-range signaling of soliciting a breeding opportunity.’”
