The tusk is a tooth and an extraordinarily responsive sensory device. They and belugas are the only “two living representatives of the Monodontidae family” and they can mate with each other. Their blubber layer accounts for one-third of their body mass, which is handy when you live in the Arctic. They’re hunted by polar bears, orcas, and humans. Look at them!
