short video: Yowie Deschanel plays an asalato (Yowie/YouTube). Wowie.
recipe: Fig Leaf Ice Cream & Candied Green Figs (Dig Delve). Too complex and time-consuming for me, but someone may want to try this. Can also be used with apricots, peaches, or plums.
essay: Lots Of People Will Unsubscribe As A Result Of This, Solely Because It’s My Second Post In Consecutive Days, But The Fact Is My Cat Died And I Needed To Write About It (Tom Cox/The Villager). “George was impressively mellow around my other male cats. Often I would wander outside and find him on his back at the centre of the sceptical circle they had made around him. ‘Watch out,’ I’d hear one say. ‘I think he has a gun.’ But George would just stretch out with the dreamy, unhurried look of the former nomad who has finally found his place in the world. ‘Guys,’ he would say, gazing at the sky. ‘Have you ever really thought about how amazing clouds really are? I mean, really thought?’”
article: Asters and Goldenrods: Embrace the Blues and Golds (Claudio Vazquez/Izel Native Plants). Aster & Goldenrod time is starting here in NH. This is a great article about asters and goldenrods, which are both members of the (large) Asteraceae family of plants, and they both have compound flowers aka pollinator magnets. Some asters recommended, depending on your conditions, include white wood aster, bigleaf aster, New York aster, purplestem aster, smooth blue aster. When it comes to goldenrod, many know only the aggressive Canadian goldenrod, but there are many others that play nicely, like bluestem goldenrod, wrinkleleaf goldenrod, early goldenrod (all of which grow in my yard) as well as anisescented goldenrod and showy goldenrod.
