long article: Going Toe to Toe with Doug Tallamy (Conservation Sense & Nonsense). Not really an article, not really an interview or a conversation, but an important nuanced read concerning native and non-native plants, pollinators and insects, and biodiversity.
recipe: Coconut Curry Chickpeas with Pumpkin and Lime (NYT gifted link). I haven’t tried it but it looks right up my alley and has rave reviews. Let me know if you try it.
essay/short interview: This psychedelics researcher approached his death with calm and curiosity (NPR). The researcher is Roland Griffiths, who died in October. “I keep his medallion on my pile of rocks to remind me that impermanence is the natural state of things. And while we may not have a choice about when or how we leave this world, we get to choose how to live every day until that moment comes.” (transcript, or 14-minute listen)
quick reel about English and French parenting differences (Tatty Macleod/Instagram).
short article/photos: The black cat audition in Hollywood, 1961 (Rare Historical Photos). “The movie’s stars — Joyce Jameson, Vincent Price, and Peter Lorre — played with each cat. To see if it was sagacious enough, someone said. Which cat won the part is supposed to be announced today. Turns out, the lead role had already been filled by a professionally trained black cat. However, additional cats were still required as understudies and for publicity; seven were chosen based on how ‘mean’ the look in their eyes was.”
