photo essay: A photo tour of Winterthur and its odd Gentleman Farmer, Henry (Lauren Dubinsky/Floricult). Having just visited Winterthur in June for the first time — on a day when the air quality was really bad, all other public gardens were closed, and visitors with any lung issues were suggested to wear masks outside — I was surprised that the writer found it to be a place “at war with itself.” I found it restful, expansive, fairly simple in terms of gardening (as she notes), and I didn’t see the mansion as at all out of place there, though I wasn’t particularly interested in it.
