LINK FEST: 1 MARCH 2022

Links that may or may not be related to gardens, food, travel, nature, or heterotopias and liminal spaces but probably are. Sources in parentheses.

timeline: Web Design History Timeline: Explore the timeline of milestones in the history of web design from 1990 to the present. (Web Design Museum). Remember Archie, the first search engine? Or the Veronica search engine? Me, either. I do remember Gopher, the WWW Virtual Library, Netscape, AltaVista, and Lycos (vaguely?), though.

book recommendations: Understanding the Ukraine Crisis: A Comprehensive Reading List (LitHub/Henrikas Bliudzius). Ten books about Ukraine and almost 25 about Russia from a Lithuanian-born half-Russian bookseller in London.

short list: Good Things (Melanie Richards). “A personal compilation of good sensory things in life.”

6-min video (2 loops): A video essay compilation of staircase shots from 39 films directed by Alfred Hitchcock ( Vimeo/ Max Tohline). Stairs are a kind of liminal space and a heterotopia and as such signal a transition, a change, passage from one state of mind to another, a place of crisis. They’re perfect centerpieces for Hitchcock’s psychologically suspenseful films.

article with photos: Rootin’ tootin’ charcutin’: Charcuterie boards as fantasies or nightmares of abundance (Mothers Under the Influence/Kathryn Jezer-Morton), More nightmare for me.
