White clover (Trifolium repens) in the lawn.

Lowly, perhaps, but it’s a nitrogen-fixer, which means it adds nitrogen (aka fertilizer) to the garden, and it’s a favourite of pollinators, along with red clover.

You can make your own clover lawn. And you can eat the flowers.

Red clover is also gorgeous.

  1. Clover is a great plant, and at least the red one tastes really sweet. We always used to pull the individual flowers off and eat them when I was a kid.

  2. We eat our chive flowers on salads when they grow on the chive plants we brought with us from VT to DE and back to MA! They look similar to clover flowers.
